Every level is progressive and leveled, so dancers advance on readiness rather than age alone. Students with prior training are evaluated by an instructor and may be placed into a more advanced level.

Performance is built into the year, not bolted on. Casting for Nutcracker is open to Fundamentals dancers and up.
College & conservatory prep
Pre-Professional families get personalized guidance through the audition process: school recommendations, application support, solo review and mock auditions.
Beyond technique
Leadership training runs through every level — goal-setting, discipline and community service — with teaching-assistant roles for older students and service work through the Piedmont Dance Theatre nonprofit.
Adults dance here too
A separate track for ages 16 and up in ballet, pointe, tap and jazz — progressive and leveled, and built for complete beginners as much as for dancers returning after years away.
Class lengths, per-level weekly hours, adult class times, dress code and tuition are not published on the current site. Every one is marked inline above so nothing ships as a guess.
Music Program
Private lessons, built around one student
Every music lesson at Piedmont is one-on-one. Teachers customize each lesson to the student’s goals, interests and pace — from young children through adults, beginner through advanced.
Piano
Personalized attention from a teacher who understands the student’s goals, whether that’s classical repertoire, reading fluency or playing by ear.
Guitar
Acoustic and electric instruction shaped around the music the student actually wants to play, with technique and theory built in underneath.
Singing & Voice
Healthy vocal technique, breath support and repertoire coaching across styles, for students building confidence as much as range.
Music recitals
Recitals are optional and deliberately low-pressure — a chance to show months of practice in a supportive room. Each runs 45 to 60 minutes and mixes piano, voice and guitar performances rather than separating them by instrument.

The event structure reflects Piedmont’s documented season — Nutcracker, Early Spring Showcase, two regional competitions and the June Annual Student Performance. What does the $39.99 intro program include?
The intro program is the standard on-ramp for new dancers of any age, including adults. It includes:
- Two weeks of group classes
- A free dance bag
- Personalized program recommendations — which level and schedule actually fits your student

Do we have to wait for a term to start?
No. Piedmont runs a year-round program with rolling enrollment and a dedicated onboarding team, so students join mid-year regularly. Performance participation depends on where you land in the season — ask when you call.
My child has danced before. Do they have to start at the bottom?
No. Students with previous dance experience are evaluated by an instructor and may be placed directly into a more advanced level. Levels are based on readiness, not age.
What should we wear to the first class?
Dress code by level: leotard and tights colors, shoe requirements, hair expectations
For a trial class, comfortable movement clothes and bare feet or socks are generally fine — confirm with the front desk when you book.
What does it cost after the intro program?

Is my adult beginner going to be in class with children?
No. Adult classes are a separate track for ages 16 and up, covering ballet, pointe, tap and jazz. They’re built for both complete beginners and dancers returning after years away, so nobody is the only one starting over.
Are music lessons private or group?
All music instruction — piano, guitar and voice — is private, one-on-one, and customized to each student’s goals and interests. Call the studio for a teacher placement recommendation before you book.
Does my child have to perform?
Music recitals are optional. They run 45–60 minutes and mix piano, voice and guitar in a deliberately supportive setting.

Do we need an instrument at home?
Home instrument requirement and rental guidance
Guitar students generally need their own instrument from the start; piano students need a keyboard or piano to practice on. Ask about specific recommendations when you enroll.

How does the Pre-Professional track work?
Pre-Professional dancers train up to 15+ hours per week in ballet, pointe, contemporary, jazz, improvisation and tap, plus master classes in ballroom, hip hop, contact improvisation and partnering.
The division includes personalized college audition guidance — school recommendations, application support, solo review — and annual one-on-one evaluations with the director. Faculty hold connections to Juilliard, Point Park, Boston Conservatory, UNC School of the Arts and Wake Forest.
